Creating a global HR foundation at KOMPAN

KOMPAN operates across multiple countries, designing, manufacturing and delivering playground and fitness solutions worldwide. Behind the organisation is a complex HR landscape, with many locations, different ways of working and the need for accurate employee data. 

Before implementing Sympa in 2021, KOMPAN had no centralised HR system. Each site relied on its own tools: local systems, spreadsheets and even physical file cabinets. As Kasper Lundell Olsson, Group HRIS Manager at KOMPAN, explains, “We didn’t have a centralised system for storing and maintaining employee data and files.” 

This made it difficult to align globally and maintain consistency across countries. It was time for a single solution that could support a more unified HR approach.

What they needed

KOMPAN set out to modernise its HR processes and establish a unified way of handling employee data across locations. 

They were looking for:

  • A clearer and more consistent way of working 
  • Support for core HR processes and compliance 
  • A foundation for reliable reporting and analytics 

Most importantly, the system needed to scale internationally and support long-term growth. 

What Sympa delivered 

Since implementing Sympa, KOMPAN has gained a single, structured HR data foundation. Processes that once depended on spreadsheets and local systems are now aligned under one platform. “Sympa has provided a more consistent way to handle people data across the organisation,” Kasper says. 

Automated processes support compliance and reduce manual effort. The data structure in Sympa has also enabled KOMPAN to build an integrated HR dashboard in Power BI, now their main tool for reporting. 

A feature that stands out is the org chart. It gives colleagues across countries a clear overview of the KOMPAN Group: “The org chart has made it easier for colleagues to navigate the organisation, find employees or managers and get a better overview globally.” 

How it added value 

Sympa has strengthened alignment across KOMPAN’s global HR operations. Centralising employee data has improved accuracy, reduced manual work and made it easier to maintain consistent processes internationally. 

The collaborative approach to implementation has ensured much faster progress: “We’ve already been able to implement new features, enhance data quality and work towards global alignment.” 

Sympa’s dedicated strategic advisory team has helped shape KOMPAN’s processes beyond daily tasks. “Their input has been valuable in making better use of the system,” Kasper notes.

Moving towards a more connected HR system 

KOMPAN is preparing to expand automation even further with Sympa’s upcoming Actions workflow. They look forward to more automation, where HR admins and managers are guided through workflows instead of relying on memory and multiple clicks. This will reduce errors, minimise manual entries and make processes faster and more accurate. 

As the organisation continues integrating additional systems, such as ATS and payroll, involving Sympa early helps ensure compatibility. This flexibility gives KOMPAN confidence in building a connected HR ecosystem. 

A foundation for the future 

KOMPAN has moved from scattered local solutions to a single, consistent HR foundation. As Kasper describes it, “Sympa has given us a structured, reliable HR foundation that supports our work today and our development as a global organisation.”
